Another guest post - Is Harry Potter good for the world?

Justin has done a great job on his term paper and I think it is worthy to share.  As I have indicated before, he is doing a literature/worldview course based off the Harry Potter series.  I assigned him a term paper to answer the question "Is Harry Potter good for the world?" based on his readings and own thoughts as he engaged the stories again.  His audience is our Christian brothers and sisters.  For my friends who have struggled with the series and/or have been fearful of where reading it might lead to for your children, I offer Justin's paper.  It is thoughtful, insightful, and gracious and I do believe will challenge the typical assumptions.  But even if you are unconvinced, you still have to admit it's well-done.  Good work Justin - you makes a mother proud. Oh yes they did...

Four out of the five little Fergies donned costumes to make the annual trek begging for candy from the neighbors.  They had quite the group of friends gathered together.  Justin, John and a couple of other dad-friends sat out on the driveway offering coffee and hot chocolate to the parents of trick-or-treaters, while I stayed warm inside making sure the treats were handed out accordingly and that my friend and I were sustained with plenty of "treats" ourselves.  All in all, fun times were enjoyed by all.

Birthday catch-up again

Have I posted pics of Jason's b-day?  I don't think so.  Well, this is a two for one with pics from Jason's 12th b-day and Miranda's 13th.

 

 

I do believe Miranda wins the award for the most energy and excitement on her birthday. Actually anybody's birthday...and Christmas...and any holiday...whew!

We love you Miranda and Jason!  Hope this year is AWESOME for you!

Curling

So curling was new to us upon arrival in Calgary.  You might have seen it watching the winter Olympics, it is somewhat (loosely) like shuffle board, only it's on ice and involves a really big round rock.  A couple of the boys were learning how to curl during their P.E. session, so I thought I would share some photos.

Ballet Class

Last week, the parents of Miranda's ballet class were invited to come and see what they have been doing. It was so fun and cute to boot. They danced with streamers, showed us some basic ballet moves and finished off with a reindeer sleigh ride, Miranda at the reins.
