A Reminder

And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you for all future generations: I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth...And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth." Genesis 9:12-13, 15-16
There was a rainbow today...a full rainbow, in Truillo, Peru. I didn't know we could get rainbows. I thought you needed rain to get rainbows. But what do I know.
It was good to see the rainbow today. I needed to see the rainbow today... unexpectedly, impossibly. I needed to remember that it is God who covenants with us and requires nothing of us but to remember. I needed the reminder of the rainbow to remember my God who does not forget my friend's baby in the hospital, who does not forget the students gunned down while in class, and the parents who are grief-stricken, my sweet friends included. My faith is weak as I can not even fathom the things that have been happening this week. My ways are not God's ways and I can not even begin to understand. But remembering gives me hope. I am so grateful to have a God I can hope in. "I trace the rainbow through the rain and feel the promise is not vain."

I must say that your composition is much better - especially since Bill took our picture while hanging out of the orphange bus as we reeled toward the Pan American Highway (note the blurry tree)! I appreciate your ruminations on the convenant faithfulness of God...thanks for sharing!
