My kids are getting into the "global warming" scare tactics, mocking the climate catastrophe Chicken Littles alongside our new friend, Glen Beck, with such statements as, "Global warming is going to destroy us! That's why it's snowing in New York City in April!"
But our goal for our children is to think thoughtfully about the issues and not run far to one extreme or the other, unless it is the right place to be, and they know that because they have good information to back up their opinions. On the issue of the environment, what I do know is that we are called to be good stewards of God's creation, not to do with it what we will, but to use it and care for it with wisdom and an understanding of what God created it for. We are also to put it in it's proper place, not as having dominion over man, but man having dominion over it. But man is corrupted in every part of his being, and therefore will not always do what he was made to do. And so, people like me, stay confused, trying to sort out the info and make sense of it through the lens of a Christian worldview.
So I was excited to find this site, Climate Depot, which as far as I can read, seems to have the desire to put things in perspective or at the very least present another angle other than the political agendas and hysteria. We are called to care for the earth, but at what cost? And is what the Environmentalists really proposing caring for the Earth? Is it? The Global Warming hysterics would have us killing people to control the population, or saving the baby seals while killing our unborn children - the weakest of the human race. Their tendency to act only on emotion and hysteria has in fact muddled anything good they might have to say. And really, is there any hard evidence to back up the theory of global warming, or is it all just a dog and pony show to push a political agenda? I suspect this is the case. So I look elsewhere than the moaning and groaning environmentalists who have no real perspective on life, no balance to their causes and no order to their purposes. I look to make sense of the issues facing the globe and to point my children towards wisdom so that they might not grow up to be Chicken Littles, or Spiteful little Kings, taking on creation as to devour it for their own pleasure.

You stole my thunder, Heather! I was going to post my thoughts on this subject and, wouldn't you know it, they mirror yours to a large degree.
We do have to be careful that we don't stake a position on the far opposite extreme of issues we disaree with; there might just be a little bit of something worthwhile in the other side's argument.
The key difference in this debate between the Mother Earthers and Christian Stewards is the object of our actions. One side basically worships the Earth while the other (should) be worshiping God through obedience in stewarding His creation.
Good post.
