What does it feel like to have a brick fall on your head?

Ask Kevin.

Today, while working along side the team from SMU, a brick (or maybe two) hit Kevin in the head and then smacked him along the side of his face as well. No one really saw what happened exactly, but according to Kevin, he felt something hit his head and he went down, only to immediately try to get up saying "I'm ok. I'm ok." The following info was provided later from Justin. He saw Kevin on the ground, then trying to get up affirming his ok-ness when one of the SMU girls said "No you are not!" and help was then quickly sought.

John brought him home and we checked the wound out as best as we could at the time, and trying to soothe Kevin. He wasn't crying, but he was shaking and visibly afraid. I didn't want to make him more afraid by digging into his head. I should have.

What appeared at first to be just an abrasion, and even seemed to have stopped bleeding, ended up being a hole about the size of my finger around. It hadn't stopped bleeding and so almost three hours later, off to the clinic we went.

Kevin received 5 stitches and I received a lecture from the nurse for not bringing him in sooner. At one point I really thought I was getting reported. To whom? I have no idea who that would be, but I was afraid. He was so much more valient than I. Fortunately Maria had come with me to make sure everything was understood between us and the doctors. That was good, because I already wasn't in a good place to be thinking clearly enough for the language difference, but after the lecture, I was just exasperated and could barely remember the days of the week in Spanish.

Kevin held up incredibly well and fortunately the doctor did know "don't worry, Kevin" in English, because he said it over and over. By the time it was all done, Kevin already felt better and the lecturing nurse had given me back safe haven as a decent mother.

He is resting now. We are thankful that this time it was not any worse than it was. And we can now check off our first trip to the Emergency Room in Peru. I must say, that apart from the lecture, I was pretty impressed.

Well, there's a perk for ya--trip to the ER, not so bad in Peru.

The picture of Kevin almost made me cry and throw up at the same time. I'm so thankful he really is ok.

We love you Kevin!

Hey Kevin, I hope your head gets better soon. Here's a tip, though. You don't want to act too tough and miss this chance for guilt-induced outpourings of sympathy from your mom.

Well, you can't spell Peru without 'ER'!

I'm glad you're alright, Kevin and I hope you get back in full form really soon.

(Heather: No worries, we all know what a great mama you are!)

Oh, Kevin, I am so sorry to hear you were hurt, but am extremely glad that you are going to be okay. Play it for all its worth--you know, ice cream, no chores, all the good stuff. Hugs from Granma. I love you.
