Ok, for those of you who are not pet people, I am done...for now.
One of the most frequently asked questions of us is how are the kids adjusting. Well, probably better than we are. The Fergie kids are just 5 of 18 Peru Mission children currently living here right now. (We have a couple of familes on the way and a few more in the pipeline). It has been so great for the kids to have this instant camraderie since we pulled them away from such a great situation. They miss their friends back home tremendously, but if we left, they would be hurting for these friends as well - and that is a good thing. The only drawback has been that we are not getting the "immersion" into Spanish that we thought would happen. Even their Peruvian friends speak English. But, I have decided that I prefer it this way. None of the kids are going to be sitting in therapy because they never really learned Spanish, but many a heart is broken through isolation and lonliness. Because of the community we have among the missionary families, we strengthen each other and spur one another on to endure some of the hardships we come by from living in a foreign culture. My kids are struggling with not understanding worship, not being able to go as many places as they used to, not being able to do as many things as they used to do. But even in those struggles, they have a refuge in these friends that they can look forward to playing with, spending time with - completely relaxed and free from the stress of the language difference. Maybe I am wrong in my perspective - maybe I should be more concerned that they aren't getting the Spanish as quickly as they could be, but right now, I am just so grateful that they have this community of friends.

They need their friends! They can learn Spanish later at school or something. Mary and I were always glad to have each other, because we found that a lot of our friends often moved away after a year or two, so that was hard.
Anyway, we love you lots and miss you all.

Well, I feel better about David failing his Spanish class in school. He could be immersed in it and still not get it and that's okay. My sister was/is a language guru - speaks about 6 languages and I am just an English speaking gal. They WILL get it in God's timing! I surely do miss you and your family.
Love, Susan
