What do my kids really think of me?????

I took the bait and decided it would actually be more than just fun, but would be a quantitative way to find out how I'm doing with my kids by finding out how they perceive me and our relationship.

The participants:
Justin - 13
Kevin - 11
Miranda - 11
Jason - 10
Colton - 9


1. What is something mom always says to you?
Justin: Good morning, I love you.
Kevin: Hey.
Miranda: Good morning, Hi
Jason:I love you.
Colton: Don't be mean.

2. What makes mom happy?
Justin: Me.
Kevin: Obeying her and doing your schoolwork good, giving her love.
Miranda: When people say funny things.
Jason: Children that obey.
Colton: Doing what she says.

3. What makes mom sad?
Justin: Not me.
Kevin: Not obeying, not doing school and not giving her love.
Miranda: Like if you don't love her
Jason: Disobedient children.
Colton: Disobeying her.

4. How does your mom make you laugh?
Justin: By laughing at the answers I give on this.
Kevin: By doing something very funny.
Miranda: Funny stories
Jason: When I dance funny.
Colton: I don't know.

5. What was your mom like as a child?
Justin: I don't know - what were you like?
Kevin: I have no clue - not like us. Man, you really haven't told us about your childhood.
Miranda: I don't know.
Jason: She threw lots of fits.
Colton: You were cute.

6. How old is your mom?
Justin: 36
Kevin: 34 or younger - I'm saying that because people probably think you are older than you look.
Miranda: 36 because she does not look 35.
Jason: 17 (I think he is trying to schmoose me.)
Colton: 35

7. How tall is your mom?
Justin: 5-2, 5-3, somewhere around there.
Kevin: 5 foot 8 or something?
Miranda: between 2 and 3 inches
Jason: 5-6
Colton: I have no idea.


8. What is her favorite thing to do?
Justin: Read
Kevin: Spend time with her children.
Miranda: Get on the computer.
Jason: Get a diet coke in the morning when she wakes up.
Colton: Read to us.


9. What does your mom do when you're not around?
Justin: I don't know - she doesn't tell me.
Kevin: I have no clue because she doesn't tell us what she does when we are not around.
Miranda:Stays home and reads a book.
Jason: Takes naps.
Colton: Works on the computer.

10. If your mom becomes famous, what will it be for?
Justin: being First Lady. (Clarification: There are NO plans by John for any move into public office on the horizon.)
Kevin: Being the best mom in the world.
Miranda: Looking fancy and pretty.
Jason: Her great homeschooling.
Colton: Being a cheerleader.


11. What is your mom really good at?
Justin: Teaching school
Kevin: Being a mom
Miranda: Cooking
Jason: Teaching math
Colton: Helping us at school.


12. What is your mom not very good at?
Justin: Typing
Kevin: I would say video games, but I never see you play.
Miranda: Magic
Jason: Being mean to us
Colton: Drawing


13. What does your mom do for a job?
Justin: Be a mom.
Kevin: A job? You don't...like what kind of job? Oh...being a mom.
Miranda: Wait, job? You do jobs at home.
Jason: Teach us school.
Colton: I don't know.

14.What is your mom's favorite food?
Justin: Tacos
Kevin: I have no clue.
Miranda: Lomo Saltado
Jason: Salad
Colton: Chicken Express (what???)


15.What makes you proud of your mom?
Justin:Being my mom.
Kevin: When she helps others when they need it and when she is kind to others.
Miranda: Because I like to give her hugs.
Jason: When she gets mad she doesn't take it out on us.
Colton: When she helps us when we need help.


16. If your mom were a cartoon character, who would she be?
Justin: I don't have any idea.
Kevin:ummm...my mom...I don't know.
Miranda: I don't know
Jason: Minnie Mouse
Colton:Ummm... our mom? the same mom?



17. What do you and your mom do together?
Justin: Sit at the computer answering questions.
Kevin: Read together, school.
Miranda:We read books together, we do school together.
Jason: My grammar
Colton: Snuggle.


18. How are you and your mom the same?
Justin:We both like reading.
Kevin: We both get overwhelmed easily.
Miranda: Well, you are a girl and I'm a girl.
Jason: We're both funny.
Colton: She likes Chili's and so do I.


19. How are you and your mom different?
Justin: She's a girl, I'm a boy. She's a mom, I'm not.
Kevin: I like to draw things.
Miranda: We don't wear the same clothes.
Jason: I'm a boy, she's a girl.
Colton: She likes school, and I don't.


20. How do you know your mom loves you?
Justin:Because she loves me and takes care of me.
Kevin: Because she gives me love all the time, takes care of me, she helps me with a lot of things.
Miranda: Because she takes care of me and she loves me and she will always be my mom.
Jason: She tells me.
Colton: She helps us when we need it.


21. What does your mom like most about your dad?
Justin: That he's a good husband.
Kevin: That he loves her very, very much.
Miranda: That she can give him hugs.
Jason: When he kisses her.
Colton: That he's a good guy.

22. Where is your mom's favorite place to go?
Justin: Blue Baker
Kevin: Blue Baker
Miranda: Blue Baker
Jason: Blue Baker
Colton: Blue Baker



Hmmmm.....
I will be pondering these answers for a few days. Some of them have brought great joy and some have brought deep conviction of sin.
Both of which are beautiful things.
And some of their answers, were just plain funny.

Those were funny...and you're brave to share with the world. It sounds like your kids know how lucky they are to have you for a mom!

Now could you ask for any better kids? BTW, I did not know you threw fits as a child. I am sure he got that one wrong. :)
