Starbucks Happenings

A new sensation has arrived in Trujillo...finally.

Up until last weekend, the only Starbucks to be found in all of Peru were in Lima, home to more than one, maybe up to 6 or 7, I can't remember. But after much anticipation, Trujillo's very own Starbucks opened it's doors. Saturday night was the "initiation" which brought in people from all over Trujillo, especially the extraordinary SALI interns, to sample the delights that can be concocted from coffee, for free.

But apparently Monday was the first official day of service, of which we took part in a very special way. John and I arrived around 9:30 to find the doors open and what looked like a few patrons already lap-topped out working the wi-fi. We ordered our caramel machiattos and gave our names. "Heather", was, as usual, given a creative twist, and we opted to give them "John", instead of Juan, which always leads to some interesting spelling attempts. As we were waiting for our coffees to be prepared, we were greeted by the staff that had been previously thought to be wi-fying patrons and informed that we were the very first customers (paying, I assume) of the store and could they take our picture and post our ticket up on the "Starbucks Happenings" bulletin board for all of Trujillo to celebrate. Of course, we said yes.

So, there you go - for all posterity. "Jhon and Annette" Ferguson will always be remembered as the very first "clientes" of Starbucks Trujiilo.

What an honor.

very cool. John always looked like more of a Jhon to me.

My best Starbuck's experience was visiting three different ones in one day. Kind of happened by accident. Maybe I should ask for a plaque in my favorite one.
