A Celebration Song
This is my favorite scene from one of, if not my favorite, movie, "Diary of a Mad Black Woman". Without giving anything away from the movie, I will tell a few details to get the full impact of the scene and song. The man that gets up and goes to the front first is recovering from paralysis (won't tell why) and he is the big Jerk of the movie (won't tell why on that either). The woman that comes into the church singing has just been fighting the week before, detoxing from a long-time drug addiction. The man she moves to is her estranged husband (estranged because she didn't want to give up the drugs). The girl singing at the beginning is her daughter.
All that to say, I love this song and scene because it communicates so well and yes, emotionally, the power of Christ. I tear up every time I see it. I think I am going on 18 times now.
So, on this Easter Sunday, believe! As Jesus said to Thomas when he showed him his scars, "Do not disbelieve, but believe." Don't actively talk yourself out of believing that Christ has the power to change us and meet us where we are with tenderness and with his resurrection power. He makes all things new, even jerks, even junkies, even me.
The King of Glory is Jesus and he has come in power.
Somebody say ye-es and amen.

You go girl! I'll give my shout out to you and say "Aye-men, Sister!"

TRAGA...LO!!
(I hope you translated that properly because it's being incorporated into my everyday vocabulary and I don't want to be going around saying something like "smell my feet!" because a lot of my neighbors are hispanic and they already think we're a little on the goofy side)
