Well, I was right. I was challenged, convicted and soothed all at the same time. Many of us were, if not all. Dr. Knox Chamblin and his sweet wife Ginger again served as honey to our hearts and refreshment for our souls.
Wednesday night, Ginger asked us ladies about our "passions". Last year, she had asked us about our dreams and this year brought us little gifts according to what we had named as our dreams. Ginger has an incredible memory when it comes to people and prayer. She uses these questions not only to get us thinking more deeply about who we are, made in the image of God, but also to pray specifically for us. She also spoke to us very honestly about depression, her "soapbox" if you will. Her long struggle with depression has made her especially sensitive and compassionate. She openly shares her heart in order to aid in the healing and understanding process. We just soaked it in.
Saturday we spent all day at the Golf Hotel, Trujillo. Knox preached from James on wisdom. He expounded the difference between the wisdom of the devil and it's manifestations (bitterness, selfish envy, rivalry) and the wisdom from above (which manifests goodness, purity, tender-heartedness). His section on our speech was particularly convicting (eek! There is a reason for that). One thing he said which was particularly beautiful for me was, "we can rejoice in our awareness of personal sin....Use your tongue to acknowledge your lack of wisdom and the very utterance of that prayer shows wisdom." Wow.
It was all wonderful and timely and relevant, full of truth to chew on for many days and weeks to come. We are so thankful that Knox and Ginger took the time to come down and share themselves with us and we are so thankful for the work of Christ in them which glows so vividly and gives us an ongoing source of encouragement and hope.
