Another first this week...

...for our clinic out in Wichanzao and for two of our Peru Mission interns.

This week we have had two visiting doctors with us from Anderson, South Carolina: Dr. Nate Bradford, Bill's brother, and one of his residents, Dr. Liz Hayford. Whenever we have visiting doctors, there is typically a medical campaign out in the neighborhood, passing out flyers and letting people know that there will be visiting doctors at the clinic that week and to come on out.
Well, on Thursday, a woman thought that the clinic would be a great place to give birth and so she came in, laboring, that morning. She was monitored carefully and well-cared-for. Dr. Liz, a pro at delivering babies with 37 under her belt, knew exactly what to do, but needed help in the translation department. That's where our highly trained Peru mission interns come in.

That afternoon, Dr. Nate had to leave to do a seminar for a group of women, and Bill was going with him to translate. Wes was in Lima, so Lawson Konvalinka and Joshua Burdette were asked to stay on at the clinic to aid Dr.Liz in translating between her and the patients. Just what that baby was waiting for.

The laboring woman very suddenly was ready to give birth, and Dr.Liz, not speaking Spanish, definitly needed our worthy heroes at her side. From what I understand, it was a difficult birth, without going into details, but after some hard and skillful work on the part of Dr. Liz and her handy, helpful, brave translators, mother and baby are fine.

Great work!
